Its an important skill that is often overlooked in our digital world. It almost seems so obvious to me now that I dont even think about it, but a few months ago I would have missed this shot. Good light is all around us, its everywhere and often we completely ignore it.
Take this shot. I apologise for the subject, but the shot itself I like. Whilst trying out the mono pod a friend loaned me, I noticed the cool patterns on the walls from the overhead lampshade.
I took a single step back to the edge of the cone of light itself and took the shot.
Editing wise I have done next to nothing. Removed the lamp with clone but left the balls of light in, they almost appear to be floating. Adjusted white balance (clicked on the white of my eye to make it easy and quick). Lastly I sharpened my eyes a tiny bit.
Quick self portrait, very striking in my opinion with nothing but a regular light bulb over head. Light is all around us, so next time you fancy shooting someone. Look around, find that light and move your subject into it. You may just be amazed.
