Compact Camera Gig Photography

gig

Ahhh Nine Inch Nails, a band I have listened to since I was 17, and still one of my favourites. For those who dont know their latest tour is also their last. Trent Reznor the musician behind them has decided to hang up his gigging hat. I got to see them at the MEN Arena [...]

Classic Lola

classiclola

If it’s of interest I intend to post up some before and after shots to show the difference some basic processing can make. There are so many theories on Post processing it’s difficult to know which one is best. The answer I think is whichever you prefer. In recent months I have favoured a very [...]

Lola Hope Yamaha R1

lolar1

The lovely Lola and my R1 bike. Went for a slightly aged look with this shot, even though the bike isnt that old. It may be hard to believe but the sun was so bright here, that I could not see my screen on camera to check that my settings and lights were correct. Best [...]

Aikido – Chishin Dojo Coventry

aikido

A favour and an experiment. My good friend John run’s a relatively new Aikido Dojo in Coventry. Approaching their second anniversary, I was invited along to try and shoot some action shots, something I have never done before, especially not with martial arts. Using 2 strobes, one each side of the room was sufficient but [...]

Iceman – Fletch

iceman

A little photoshop work here as part of the X-men makeup shoot for Makeup Artist Sarah-Jane Lyons. A very talented young lady and I would really like to thank her for the opportunity to photograph her work. I had a fun day! Thanks to to Lola Hope (Mystique) and Richard Hinton a fellow photographer. Last [...]

Behind the Scenes: Midland Strobists

tommystrob

Sunday saw the Midlands Strobist group attend a workshop at Cosfird Air museum for some off camera flash action. It was well attended with almost 40 photographers, although only 12 models turned up. Still a good day was had by all, and a rather good overview was delivered by Denyer as an introduction to Strobist [...]

Elinchrom Skyport review

skyport

Update 26/09/2010. They have performed perfectly and reliably throughout their entire time (almost 2 years). However almost overnight the trigger has became unreliable, and won’t trigger when on the hotshoe. Strangely I had noticed this with Damian’s triggers before and putting it on backwards on the hotshoe seemed to resolve it. Mine however now will [...]

Snow Bokeh

It’s been snowing quite heavily this past week. I didn’t make a great deal of time to take photos. This is a shot taken by defocusing the camera and firing  flash into the darkness. Interesting effect?

Its OK, I think I lost him

Experiment in multiple exposure’s and possibilities with just one light. Not commercially viable but certainly fun.

Home from work and already dark

Part of my 90 day project to take one shot a day. I am incredibly interested in the Strobist movement, and this shot was the result of some experimentation. Self portraits are not my forte but I am moderately pleased with the result.

As someone who has not ridden a mountain bike in many years, I thought it would be a good idea to enter the Hell of the North Cotswolds www.honc.org.uk in April, well maybe not a good idea, but definitely an idea. This is an offroad event, lasting 50km and its not called Hell for nothing. [...]

Say Yes More

Local duo, Say Yes More, played at the Kingswood in Nuneaton tonight. Although they were supporting Treacle Town, I have to say the duo stole the show. The new 70-200mm L really paid its dues tonight and showed what quality glass can deliver in very poor lighting conditions. The 40d also provided good noise for [...]

90 day challenge

I decided to challenge myself to a 90 days, 90 shots goal. So far so good, its not always easy to find a good shot, in ordinary surroundings you see everyday. I am sure it will result in a few duds, but it sure keeps my mind active and eyes open for a shot, any [...]

Happy New Year

2008 is officially over and its time to look to 2009.  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. To all my friends, family and clients I would liek to wish you a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Winter Wedding Workshop

Monday saw a 5am rise for the drive to Manchester, for a workshop with Brett Harkness. The workshop was specifically for winter weddings, a daunting prospect for any photographer. When light is such a key to a good photograph, winter seems the worst time to get good shots for a wedding, when the sun has often [...]

An unusual model

Tuesday was a rather unusual commission, but a fun one none the less. Whereas normally conversation and rapport can get you through a shoot, hotdogs and biscuits were more useful at this one. Benson is a Basset Hound and a character he was too. I hope  managed to catch that character for his owner. I [...]
